See What We Can Do for an Aching Jaw
So, a lot of patients that come in with TMJ have worn night guards in the past or don’t want to wear a night guard, and they still have issues with their jaw, specifically back here, right around your ear. With the Botox that we do, we do a lot of the aesthetic Botox for, you know, your 11s, frown lines up here and your crow’s feet. However, a lot of patients…you’ve got two muscles, two main muscles, that cause TMJ pain because of the grinding. You got your temporalis, which flares like a fan up here. You got your masseter, which is one of the strongest muscles in the mouth because it helps grind food. Placing Botox in those two areas specifically helps relax that muscle to where a lot of the grinding that’s going on, or just from migraine headaches in general, dissipates. We have several patients that come in and get the, I call it the migraine Botox or the TMJ Botox done, and it’s a tremendous benefit. And a matter of fact, when you place it specifically in the masseter because it’s so thick, most patients, when we inject those areas, and it’s very simple and very subtle, they actually feel the relief instantly because they can just feel the muscle go, “Ah.” It’s really cool.
